National Margarita Day

Drink enthusiasts all around the world have a shared love of margaritas. With the sweet and tangy flavor that makes it all too easy to enjoy the benefits of an adult beverage, it’s no surprise. Margaritas have been enjoyed since as early as 1936 and held great popularity during the prohibition. The drink that originated in Mexico now holds an excellent reputation in the United States, so much so that there’s even a day dedicated to celebrating it! In honor of National Margarita Day, let’s take a closer look at some of the ways you can enjoy your next margarita.

On the Rocks

The traditional margarita is served on the rocks. This includes the combination of tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice being shaken and poured over ice. The glass is often salted along the rim for an additional level of flavor.

If you’re looking to enjoy a frozen treat on a hot day, the blended margarita is the way to go. In this variation, all of the ingredients are poured into a blender with ice to create a smooth and palatable combination to enjoy. Salt on the rim of the margarita glass is common with blended versions of the cocktail as well.

Straight Up

A less common way to order a margarita is straight up. This means the drink is served with no ice at all, blended or poured over. This variety is less common because it lacks to the crisp, cool temperature that most people associate with a margarita. If you do decide to order your next margarita straight up, you can still expect to see the classic salt on the rim!

Flavor Variations

The traditional margarita recipe is one that has stood the test of time, but there’s plenty of other flavors to explore. Some flavor variations include flavored versions of triple sec, while others are infused with freshly blended fruit. Pineapple and watermelon are among the most common flavor choices, but the combinations and choices are endless! With the various flavor choices, the flavor of the orange liqueur is masked, creating a much sweeter drink.
Rather you choose to enjoy your margarita on the rocks, frozen, or straight up, be sure to celebrate National Margarita Day accordingly! Step outside your comfort zone to explore a new flavor or take it back old school and enjoy the ingredients that gave the drink its start.
